Pastor Shawn was called to serve as pastor at Gloria Dei! Lutheran Church in November, 2015. What excites him most about serving at Gloria Dei! is being part of such a radically welcoming, deeply loving, richly spiritual and intensely serving community of faith that is so clearly and firmly rooted in the love and grace of Jesus.
Before coming to Gloria Dei!, Pastor Shawn served for three years as Minister of Music and Education at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Inver Grove Heights, MN, for four years as secretary to the bishop of the Saint Paul Area Synod, St. Paul, MN and for seven years as a co-pastor at the three congregations of the Baudette (MN) Lutheran Parish. After moving to Washington, DC in 2011, he served as a sabbatical pastor at Hope Lutheran Church in Annandale, VA, and at All Saints Lutheran Church in Bowie, MD and as an interim pastor at Gloria Dei!.
Pastor Shawn grew up on the Canadian border of northern Minnesota and was educated at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN (Bachelor of Music) and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN (Master of Arts and Master of Divinity). He is an avid walker around his Bay Hills neighborhood and (along with his spouse, Mo Goff) enjoys traveling especially back to Minnesota to visit friends and family including his daughter, Emma Grace, who is a junior in high school.
Debbie Greene, Director of Music, is an accomplished pianist, organist and vocalist. She is a charter member of Gloria Dei! but began her early music training as a student of Mrs. Dorothy Webster at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Linthicum. At an early age she played for chapel and church services developing a love of church music. By age 16 she was the organist at Asbury United Methodist Church, Arnold. From 1975-1979 Debbie was the Assistant Organist at the United States Naval Academy. There she played three church services, directed the Catholic Folk Mass, and worked with the midshipmen on their yearly musicals. After moving to Connecticut, Debbie was an eighth grade English and Social Studies teacher for 13 years. She also served as Organist at the Road Church in Stonington, Connecticut. Following several additional moves with her Navy husband, Brent, she returned to Maryland and Gloria Dei! in 1992. Since that time she has been involved in many aspects of the music program. Currently currently she directs the Youth and Children’s choir, as well as the Hand Bell Ensemble. She is happy to provide support as needed to the other dedicated directors and groups in the music department.
Debbie holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland and a Master of Education Degree from Eastern Connecticut State University. She has also taken graduate courses at Westminster Choir College in music and conducting. She is grateful for the opportunity to serve God through her music at Gloria Dei!
