Letter from Mr. Vlado Maly – President
and Church Administrator – Slovakia (Krajne)
| After
the “Velvet Revolution” when the cold war ended
and Soviet domination ceased in Eastern Europe, one of
our members, John Remias visited his family church and
town in Krajne Slovakia.. At this time Slovakia and the
Czech Republic had separated. John found both his family
and his family Church. After Fifty years of neglect, because
the Soviets did not allow any work on churches, the church
was in desperate need of repair. Under the leadership of
their pastors, the church started to flourish. John visited
again and asked if there were any way Gloria Dei! could
help. They needed money to repair the roof, sections of
the interior, the organ, and some exterior work.
Gloria Dei!
responded with a large cash contribution raised from
almost 100 of our families. We were happy to give
it and they graciously received it. They had earned
it by their faithfulness in a time of persecution.
They were the keepers of the flame for Slovakia.
Without them and others like them the Gospel would
have died. They put their lives on the line for Jesus.
They are modern day heroes and heroines. We should
get down on our knees and kiss their feet in gratitude.
In 2000 Pastor Tom
and his family were present for the dedication of
their restored pipe organ.
In 2001 John Remias
and Pastor Tom led a group of twenty youth and adults
to visit Krajne. The pictures that you see are from
that trip. John Remias
will be going back over this June, 2003 and delivering
more
funds from Gloria Dei to help them build
a chapel in one of the outlying areas where they
hold services on Saturdays for folks that can't get
to the town church on Sundays.
