Summary of Ministry Areas and Activities

Gloria Dei! Ministry Teams

Communication

Tom Mitchell

The Communication team is responsible for publicizing events in local newspapers, maintaining the email and telephone directory, the monthly newsletter, the Facebook private group, the Twitter account and the web site.

Fellowship

Annette Taylor

The Fellowship team is responsible for fellowship activities including the annual Christmas progressive dinner. Our members yearn to become acquainted with each other and strengthen our bond as a congregational family. Potential events range from a boating or raft trip, a potluck supper to share our ethnic heritage, a golfing outing with other churches, a family bowling event, a chime learning day, a fishing trip, a congregational picnic, a nature hike, an October Fest and more. We also will be restarting Bread Breakers due to popular demand. A signup poster allows you to help in planning at least one of these events. We are asking that each member signup to help in the planning and completion of at least one event. By doing this, we will spread the joy and effort experienced in the implementation of each fellowship event. Prayerfully consider which event you would like to be involved in and look for the poster to get involved!! If you have ideas for additional fellowship events you would like to chair please email Annette at bilbokins@hotmail.com.

Learning

Dorothy Shiffler

Sunday School Superintendent: Becci Ropp
Teen Hour: Keith Limbacher

The Learning Ministry at Gloria Dei! serves by educating the youth and adults of the congregation. We are fortunate to have many educational programs and a dedicated group of Sunday School teachers and parent volunteers. There are over 65 children registered for Sunday School.

The major responsibilities of the Learning Ministry are Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Gloria Dei! youth programs are a vibrant part of the congregational life. We have groups for elementary, Middle school, and High School children.

This Learning Ministry also organizes programs and services that promote Spiritual and emotional well being and wholeness. It organizes quiet days, retreats, staffs the prayer chain, sends notes and prayers to the ill, organizes the prayer vigils, and provides meals for families in need (sick, hospitalized, grieving etc).

BOOKS FOR SALE - Check out the Gloria Dei! Book Cart, located in the Narthex. PLEASE remember to follow the simple payment directions located on the cash box on the cart. It will help with the inventory. Any questions - please see Jill Lowe.

So much of Jesus' ministry dealt with restoring health to people. God wishes us to be whole persons spiritually, physically and emotionally.

Community Outreach

Jill Lowe

This team cares for those who are outside the congregation. Among other things it supports My Brothers Food Pantry, helps people in need, donates turkeys at Thanksgiving to Food Link and gifts to numerous families at Christmas, organizes educational events.and other projects throughout the year.

MY BROTHER'S PANTRY Food donations are accepted every Sunday at Gloria Dei! You may place your donations of food items on the cart in the Narthex.

BABY PANTRY Baby supplies are accepted every Sunday at Gloria Dei! You can place your donations in the basket in the Narthex. The donations are given to the Emergency Baby Pantry of Annapolis through Food Link.

CROP WALK During the month of October the ministry team organizes walkers and donations to sponsor the annual walk to raise money to help world hunger. The event also gives 30% of the money to the local Severna Park food bank.

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF (LWR) FAIR TRADE COFFEE PROJECT This coffee project promotes congregational awareness through the sale of shade grown fair trade coffee, tea and other food products. Farmers earn a fair price for their products and are able to invest in education, health care, and agricultural improvements in their communities.

MISSION QUILTS FOR LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF When you make and send a quilt, you are not only comforting someone you have never met, but providing an object that is useful in ways you probably never imagined. In addition to being a cozy, clean bed cover, it can be a baby carrier, tied around a mother’s back, a market display, spread on the ground and piled with, vegetables, a sack for transporting those goods to market, a sunshade, a shawl and most importantly, a constant reminder that someone, far away, cares a lot
Drop in to the second grade Sunday School room as long as you want on Fridays from 9 am to 3 pm. Bring your own lunch. No sewing experience is required.
Contacts: Linda Dreibelbis and Phyllis Hauge.

WINTER RELIEF For the past few years Gloria Dei! has worked with the homeless of the county by providing food and a place to sleep as part of the county-wide Winter Relief program sponsored by a group of churches in Anne Arundel County.

Mutual Ministry

Dale Lauermann

The Mutual Ministry Committee has the following roles: accountability, advocacy and advisory.

  • Accountability: accountable to Gloria Dei! and the Bishop.
  • Advocacy: advocate to the congregation on behalf of the Pastor & to the Pastor on behalf of the congregation.
  • Advisory: run things by one another.

  • Spiritual Nurture

    Pastor Fred

Grow in faith with us at church school for children, youth, and adults. From birth to death, we grow in faith and live out our baptism in community. Our ministry of Spiritual Nurture reflects our belief that God deepens God’s relationship with infants, children, youth, and adults as we gather for spiritual nurture throughout our lives. We minister to one another in many ways through classes, small groups, intentional spiritual practices, special events, mission trips, local mission connection activities, and walking with each other in mentoring relationships.

    Support

This team is responsible for helping our members know each other and our programming better as well as communicating our ministry events to the wider community. It has developed this web site, developed a new pictorial directory, and through the church office sends out daily Email devotions. It advertises Congregational events in the local paper and other local publications so that as many as possible know what is happening at Gloria Dei!
